Who's on First?
Volume 5 - Mike Maciag - New Jersey Springboks
with John Murphy
Hello again and welcome to another day of Who's on First. Today I would like to welcome the owner of the New Jersey Springboks, Mike Maciag. Good morning, Mike.
Mike Maciag: Hey, glad to be here.
John Murphy: To start off, what are your goals for the next couple seasons?
Mike Maciag: To make it deep into the playoffs. I don't expect to make it into the World Series, but I would like to go deep soon.
John Murphy: What is preventing you from meeting your goals?
Mike Maciag: Underperforming players and inconsistent pitching
John Murphy: If you had the opportunity, what would you change about MLIB?
Mike Maciag: The farm system. There are no minor leaguers with any potential. Look at normal baseball: Farm teams have a lot of importance. Here you only get new players from free agency or the draft.
John Murphy: If you had a motto or slogan posted on your team's webpage, what would it say?
Mike Maciag: " I would go through hell in a gasoline suit to keep playing baseball." Pete Rose
John Murphy: Why a Pete Rose quote?
Mike Maciag: He gave more effort to the game than anyone else and few have played with more passion.
John Murphy: Back to MLIB, What 4 teams do you think will make the playoffs from the NL?
Mike Maciag: Ohio, Stripling, New York, definitely. Anyone in the NL West can win it, but I'd give the edge to Portland.
John Murphy: Any underdogs do you think have a chance at....
Mike Maciag: My team
John Murphy: OK, will end with word association. Selig?
Mike Maciag: Rogo...no wait...the Bin Laden of baseball.
John Murphy: Junior?
Mike Maciag: Unlucky.
John Murphy: Interleague play?
Mike Maciag: Need more of it.
John Murphy: MLB WS Pick?
Mike Maciag: Reds & Yankees
JM: MLIB WS Pick?
Mike Maciag: Toronto & Stripling
John Murphy: Thanks so much to Mike for being on the show. God bless y'all and this is the old left-hander rounding third and heading for home.
